Orlistat is a licensed medication for the treatment of obesity as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It is a lipase inhibitor that works by preventing the gut from absorbing some of the dietary fat. It stops about one-third of the dietary fat from being absorbed. 

It is recommended to be taken three times a day, with meals. Specific dietary advice also needs to be followed whilst taking Orlistat, where a 30% reduction in consumption of fat is recommended.
